Instructions for Submitting Curriculum Additions/Changes

Special Topics courses may be approved for core curriculum attributes. Approval is granted for only one semester. In order to input the attributes before students register for class, please fill out this form including all supporting documentation (i.e., SACS formatted syllabus, etc.) by the time that course schedules are due to the registrar. Departments may submit multiple special topics courses and/or faculty members may submit individual courses.

If proposing a tier 1 or tier 2 writing course, what proportion of the course grade is based on written work, not including tests and exams? For tier 1, at least 1/3 of the grade must come from writing for the course to fulfill writing proficiency designation, with revision optional. For tier 2, at least 1/3 of the grade must be based on writing and include a revision and reevaluation by the instructor.

Please attach a SACS formatted syllabus and any other supporting documents. A complete syllabus is not necessary for special topics courses, but the committee needs to see the learning objectives and a skeletal outline of readings and assignments in order to assess whether it should be approved with the core attributes.
