This year's Scout-O-Rama looks differently, but it will still be a lot of fun for your Unit to showcase your talents by hosting an activity instead of a booth.
When a unit hosts an an activity it becomes an adventurous learning experience for both adults and scouts. Your youth will benefit from the excitement of determining a theme, planning the activity and displaying the complete project. Everyone will benefit from the experience gained through teamwork. Hosting an activity also provides an opportunity for unit members to put their talents to good use. Your members can show their families as well as the community what the Scouting program has to offer!
This is how it will work this year:
Units are asked to put on their thinking cap to adapt their traditional booth or create something new that will be fun and engaging for a family at home. This could be in the form of a challenge like a scavenger hunt or hiding geocaches around the council. This could be a facebook live guided demonstration where the scouts participate in real time like making a craft or foil dinner. This could be a pre-recorded video with instructions like orienteering, semaphore, or a game. The goal of these activities is to get everyone up and doing something instead of staying at home in front of the computer. Please bring your creativity!
For recordings or live:
- Design something for cub scouts, Scouts BSA, or all ages.
- less than 15 minutes of instruction before the family gets to take part in the activity.
- Total activity should be 30 minutes to 1 hour if families will be following along at home.
- All materials needed should be readily available at most homes or grocery stores.
- Activity should be able to be done by a single family.
- Activity must be allowed in the Guide to Safe Scouting.
For challenges/instructions:
- Design something for cub scouts, Scouts BSA, or all ages.
- All materials needed should be readily available at most homes or grocery stores.
- Activity must be allowed in the Guide to Safe Scouting.
All submissions will be reviewed by the Scout-O-Rama committee before being included in the event. Please reach out if you have an idea and need help figuring out how it can fit in.
