Like last fall, this year's Scout-O-Rama will be a 2 week adventure on the Goosechase app with missions and challenges for families to do at their own pace.
We would like your Unit to design your own unique challenge/mission for your fellow scouts. Creating a challenge is an adventurous learning experience for both adults and scouts. Your youth will benefit from the excitement of determining a theme, planning the activity, and seeing fellow scouts complete their mission on the goosechase app. Everyone will benefit from the experience gained through teamwork and turning your vision into something fun and engaging.
This is how it will work this year:
Units are asked to put on their thinking cap to adapt their traditional booth or create something new that will be fun and engaging for a family at home. Design either a mission/challenge that can be done by a family OR a live event for scouts to tune into and participate in.
The goal of these activities is to get everyone up and doing something instead of staying at home in front of the computer. Please bring your creativity!
This could be in the form of a challenge like a scavenger hunt or hiding geocaches around the council. This could be a facebook live guided demonstration where the scouts participate in real time like making a craft or foil dinner. This could be a pre-recorded video with instructions like orienteering, semaphore, or a game.
For live events:
- Design something for cub scouts, Scouts BSA, or all ages.
- Use zoom or facebook live coordinated with the SOR committee.
- Schedule a time with the SOR committee
- Registration will be required for any live events.
- Activity must be interactive
- Total activity should be 30 minutes to 1 hour.
- All materials needed should be readily available at most homes or grocery stores.
- Activity should be able to be done by a single family.
- Activity must be allowed in the Guide to Safe Scouting.
For challenges/instructions/recorded videos:
- Design something for cub scouts, Scouts BSA, or all ages.
- All materials needed should be readily available at most homes or grocery stores.
- Units can submit a series of connected challenges that build on each other
- Only one URL can be associated with each mission so please consolidate as possible or split into multiple missions. The SOR committee can assist if needed.
- Videos will be uploaded to youtube by the committee or you can upload and submit a link.
- Activity must be allowed in the Guide to Safe Scouting.
All submissions will be reviewed by the Scout-O-Rama committee before being included in the event. Please reach out if you have an idea and need help figuring out how it can fit in.
Videos/instructions due by April 9th
