Alternative Count Day Request

The pupil membership count day of a district or intermediate district (except for a district or intermediate district maintaining school during the entire school year) is the fourth Wednesday after Labor Day [MCL 388.1606(7)]. The supplemental pupil count day is the second Wednesday in February [MCL 388.1606a]. A district or building in which school is not in session on the pupil membership count day or the supplemental pupil count day due to conditions not within the control of school authorities may request approval of the Superintendent of Public Instruction to use the immediately following day on which school is in session.
 
A district where a collective bargaining agreement that was in place as of October 1, 2007 that includes a calendar where pupils are not in session on either the pupil membership count day or the supplemental pupil count day shall be exempt from the requirement that the school was not in session due to conditions not within the control of school authorities. This requirement would apply in that district after the terms of the collective bargaining agreement expired.

Pupil Membership Auditor Support

Pupil membership auditors will be required to follow additional measures during the membership audit process due to the requested change.  The State Superintendent will only consider waiver requests that have received the support of the pupil membership auditor.
