Building a Competitive Mindset With and Through Community with Dr. Lauren McHenry:
5:00-5:45pm Parent Workshop: How to Support Your Athlete's Competitive Readiness
Watching your DNA perform, fail, and succeed can be both terrifying and addictive! In this workshop, parents will learn an evidence-based framework through which to understand their critical role in their child's sport community as well as practical strategies to support their child's competitive readiness.

6:00-6:45pm Athlete Workshop: A Competitor's Mindset - How Do You Build It?
The word "compete" stems from the latin root words "com" (together) and "petere" (strive or aim for), meaning "to strive together." In the world of competitive skating, it is easy for athletes to fall into the trap of comparing against competitors instead of truly competing - that is, striving be their best self alongside others who are doing the same. In this workshop, athletes will learn an evidence-based framework through which to understand the competitor's mindset and practical strategies to build their own.

6:45-7:00pm Athlete and Parent Wrap-Up
Competitive skating is a joint venture that is most enjoyable when athletes and parents can each understand that they're on the same team. In this wrap-up, athletes and parents will have the opportunity to share key points learned in their respective mental training workshops as well as strategies that each intends to put into practice.
