Working committees give you a chance to develop content, moderate a webinar, review journal articles, assist with Methods development and technical programming, and more. Indicate your interest in available volunteer opportunities below and an AOCS staff member will help connect you to the opportunity.

Content Volunteer Opportunities

Editorial positions: Have a strong background in writing and editing? Consider being a journal article reviewer or content editor for any AOCS Press product.

AOCS Press and Academic Press: Join the Books & Special Publications committee to assist with identifying topics and editors or authors for the next AOCS Press and Academic Press title.

Education and career development: Interested in developing a variety of educational content? Consider becoming a liaison for a Common Interest Group, Division or Section.

AOCS Webinars: Volunteer to moderate upcoming AOCS Webinars that fall within your focus area.

Session chair or co-chair: Organize a session by identifying topics and speakers for the annual meeting

INFORM magazine: Edit or contribute to a column; Write an article; Propose topics; Serve as a source of expert advice; Provide feedback with respect to editorial and design policies, changes and approaches.

Networking Volunteer Opportunities

Membership initiatives: Help to increase the visibility of the benefits of AOCS membership through creative initiatives at meetings or through online events for a Common Interest Group, Division or Section.

Midweek Mixers: Host an upcoming midweek mixer to create an online social environment for people with common interests.

Awards committee: Help identify the next AOCS award winner! Previous award winners or any member should volunteer. A great micro-volunteering opportunity!

Mentorship: Use your expertise to help emerging members of our Society thrive and succeed in their education and their career.

Technical Volunteer Opportunities

Technical programming: Provide expertise for technical committees, Uniform Methods and the Laboratory Proficiency Program.

AOCS Official Methods development: Support the development of new analytical methods by joining a subcommittee of the Uniform Methods Committee (UMC) and/or participating in collaborative trials.

Leadership Volunteer Opportunities

Common Interest Group (CIG) leadership: Each CIG offers multiple opportunities for volunteering from simply attending a meeting to helping to organize special sessions at the Annual Meeting. Identify which CIG is of interest: Student CIG, Young Professional CIG, or Professional Educator CIG.

Division leadership: Become a Division leader to grow your leadership skills and assist with planning technical programs, Division activities and more. Divisions provide members with a forum for networking and collaboration within their interest area.

Section leadership: Sections provide opportunities for networking and collaboration within a geographic region. As a Section leader, you will plan meeting programs, Section activities and more.
