An AOCS Governing Board Application should be completed by any AOCS member who wishes to serve on the AOCS Governing Board. Information will be provided to members of the AOCS Nominating and Election Committee for consideration. Completion of this form does not, in any way, guarantee service on the AOCS Governing Board.

AOCS Governing Board Competencies

Below are seven key competencies needed for a successful governance. Select up to three competencies that you feel that represent your greatest strengths that you would bring to the AOCS Governing Board. *

Judgement/problem solving. I commit to an action after developing alternative courses of action that are based on factual information and logical assumptions; taking into consideration available resources, constraints, organizational values and risks.

Strategic thinking and direction setting. I have experience with defining a desire future state of an organization and articulating the actionable steps necessary to successfully move in that direction.

Knowledge of AOCS. I am very familiar with a wide range of AOCS products and services including membership, meetings, publications, technical services, and digital presence.

Leadership experience in complex organizations. I have leadership experience in complex organizations and am able to make tough and unpopular decisions for the good of the organization.

Business mindset and experience. I understand financial management and budgeting principles necessary to sustain an organization and have experience using business principles to make sound organizational decisions.

Global awareness and experience. I understand global operating environment which surrounds AOCS, and can translate potential impacts of changes in that environment at the organizational level.

Relationship building and stakeholder relations. I have experience in developing relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to advance strategies and programs for an organization.
