APPLICATION OVERVIEW

Fashion at Barnard (FAB) Program is an intesive, two day lecture based training designed to prepare Barnard women for exciting careers in fashion.  During the program, Barnard Students will learn how to:
  • Develop retail skills that can be applied in a wide array of future jobs and careers
  • Learn what retail associates really do on a daily basis
  • Prep to interview for entry level positions in fashion
  • Craft an effective resume and cover letter
  • Prep for your summer internship in fashion
  • Become comfortable with fashion jargon
  • Inject a practical dimension into your industry knowledge
The FAB program is an excellent opportunity for students to strengthen their retail knowledge, gain confidence and get ahead of the interview process.  Participation in this program will bolster your chances of receiving an internship and /or full-time job offer in the industry.

The program requires a firm two-day commitment from Saturday, March 24- Sunday, March 25 from 9am to 3pm. Please do not apply unless you can guarantee your attendance on both days.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Barnard Career Development (BCD) is looking for motivated students who are eager to take an active role in their career preparation. Applicants will be selected based on the following criteria:
               
- Current Sophomore, Junior or Senior
- A minimum of 3.0 GPA
- Demonstrated interest in Fashion Retail
- Strong, short answer essays

1. Successfuly complete the program which includes but is not limited to:

  • Attending both days of the training.
  • Attending all site visits hosted by the employers.
  • Submitting a professional resume to Career Development to use in the training program’s resume book which will be distributed to employers.
  • Participating in the evening networking event with employers.

2. Be prompt and on time each day of the training.

3. To actively engage in the coursework as well as learn the information and materials presented.

4. Ask questions and for additional instruction when I am unsure of the material presented.

5. Adhere to all instructions and deadlines associated with the training.

6. Maintain professionalism in my interactions with instructors, employers, BCD staff and peers.

7. Dress in business attire for the evening networking reception with employers.

8.  Keep an updated and accurate profile, upload my resume and other materials in NACElink on an ongoing basis.
