Please complete the following short application form if you are interested in participating in the Barnard C.I.T.Y. (Community Involved in Tutoring Youth) program.
Barnard College students provide after school tutoring for the 8th grade students of the Robert E. Simon School (MS 165, located at 234 W. 109th Street, b/w Broadway and Amsterdam). Barnard College students are asked to tutor in the areas of math and science topics as described in the common core standards: http://www.engageny.org/resource/grade-8-mathematics
. Tutoring sessions take place at PS/MS 165 (every Tuesday
and Thursday from 3:30-5:30pm
) during Barnard’s academic year. Each student receives tutoring at least once a week. To foster trust and continuity in this relationship, students are paired with their Barnard tutor for the entire semester. The first hour of tutoring will be homework assistance and the second hour will be enrichment activities led by the tutors. With the help of the program Graduate Assistant, Barnard tutors will seek to bring in enrichment activities that will be hands on learning, high school transition, and college readiness activities.
This semester Barnard C.I.T.Y. is scheduled to start on October 1st and end on December 5th. The application deadline is Monday, September 23, 2013, at 11:59 p.m.
All Barnard students are eligible for the program. Students will be paid $10/hour.
